A gift

(letters) On Art, as a gift

Do you know a woman who keeps every ticket stub, underlines her books in pencil and reads museum labels to the very last line?

She doesn't need another candle. She has enough things. What she rarely has is a moment that arrives on its own, asks nothing of her, and tells her someone was thinking of her.

Why letters

When I was a child, my father worked at sea for months at a time, and we wrote to him. I still remember the weight of an envelope in my hand and the small ceremony of opening it slowly. A letter is time someone spent on you, folded and sent.

That's what this gift is: six months or a year of that feeling, for someone you love.

What she receives

  1. A letter every month. Typed pages with a few handwritten lines and small sketches: a meditation on art, written for her.
  2. A postcard with every letter, worth keeping or sending on.
  3. "(meditating) On Art" every season. Our magazine, printed and bound, in English and French side by side: art, slow rituals, music and places worth the detour.
  4. A first package wrapped by hand in satin ribbon, with your message printed on a card.
  5. A second card some months later, with an extra practice and a few more words from you. She hears from you twice.

This Christmas only

For Christmas, the card is printed on a winter version of my toile de Jouy pattern. It will be retired after the holidays and never printed again, so it becomes a small collectable of its own.

You also get a printable gift card the moment you've paid, so you have something to put in her hands on the day, even though the letters travel by post.

Six months or a year

  • 12 months, €240: twelve letters and postcards, and four seasonal issues of the magazine.
  • 6 months, €132: six letters and postcards, and two seasonal issues.

Both are paid once. Nothing renews, and your card is never charged again. Wrapping, the card and the second card are included.

Who it's for

For the friend who loves art, books or museums but rarely gives herself time for them. For your sister in another city. For your mother. For the woman who has everything except time.

It isn't a course, an app or a box of products. If she'd rather have daily content or guided meditations, this isn't it. It's slower than that.

How it works

  1. Choose 6 or 12 months below.
  2. Write your message for the card, or start from one of mine, and add a few words for the second card.
  3. Pay securely with Stripe, entering her address as the delivery address.
  4. Print your gift card straight away. Her first package leaves Paris with the next monthly letter.

Questions

Are the letters handwritten? They have a handwritten look: typed pages with a few lines written by hand and small sketches of mine.

Will she know it's from you? Yes, your name and message are on the card, and again on the second card.

Does anything renew? No. It's a one-time payment for 6 or 12 months.

Where do you send? Letters and the magazine travel from Paris, to France and abroad.

Can I give a print instead? Yes. Every print has a gift option on its page, with the same wrapping and cards.

Anything else? Write to me at bonjour@maisonevieve.com. I read and answer everything myself.
