A gift for the friend who has everything except time

A gift for the friend who has everything except time

She has the candles. The books she hasn't had time to read. The beautiful mugs, the scarves, the skincare. Every year you wonder what to give her, and every year you add one more lovely thing to a life with no room left to enjoy it.

What she's missing isn't a thing. It's time.

You can't give someone more hours in the day. But you can give them a reason, and permission, to stop.

Gifts of time, not things

1. A promised afternoon. Write a card that says: "One Saturday afternoon. I'll take the kids, walk the dog, handle whatever needs handling. You go somewhere quiet." Then actually do it. 2. A museum date, with rules. Two tickets, one room, no phones, and a café afterwards. You give her the outing and the slowness. 3. An unhurried breakfast. Bring the croissants, set the table, and let her sit while you do everything else. 4. A book with a note. Not just a book: a book with a note inside that says, "Read the first chapter in the bath. That's an order." 5. A ritual in a box. A candle, a small notebook, a pencil, and a card describing a ten-minute evening ritual. The objects are only props. The ritual is the gift.

A gift that makes room

If you'd like your gift to keep offering her quiet moments long after the wrapping paper is gone, the Letter & Magazine bundle was made for it: a season's letters together with an issue of "(meditating) On Art", each letter carrying a meditation and a story about art. Every time she opens one, it's a small permission to sit down, open an envelope and breathe. It's the kind of gift that doesn't add to her life. It makes room in it.

Remember to take as much time as you need, and meet me at the next one.

Love, Evi
