What to hang above your desk when work feels endless

What to hang above your desk when work feels endless

Think about it: you probably look at the wall above your desk more than at any painting in any museum. Hours a day, while you think, wait for a file to load, or stare into space looking for the next sentence. And for most of us, that wall holds a calendar, a few sticky notes, or nothing at all.

What you put there quietly shapes the hours you spend in front of it.

Three things to look for

1. Somewhere for your eyes to go. When you look up from a screen, your eyes need a place to rest and refocus. Choose art with depth or space in it: a landscape, a horizon, a garden, an open sky. It works like a small window. 2. Movement, if your body feels stuck. Long hours at a desk make the body stiff and the mind restless. An image of a body in motion, dancing, stretching, walking, can be a reminder to move, without a single notification. 3. A feeling you want more of. Ask yourself what your workdays lack. Calm? Courage? Joy? Lightness? Choose a piece that gives you that feeling every time you glance at it. You'll glance at it hundreds of times.

What to avoid

Anything that adds pressure: motivational slogans, busy patterns, images of productivity. Your desk already has enough voices telling you to do more. The art above it can be the one voice telling you to breathe.

A small ritual for long workdays

Every time you finish a task, before you start the next one, look up at the art for three breaths. Let your shoulders drop. Then come back. It takes fifteen seconds, and over a day it adds up to something real: a dozen small rests you didn't have before.

A piece for this wall

My print Yoga for Energy Blocks fits this wall well. A single figure, sketched in soft charcoal and stripes, moves through a full practice, one posture flowing into the next like breath into breath. It isn't about performing the poses perfectly. It's a reminder that release is possible, even on the longest day. Each print is hand-finished, signed, and comes with a meditation letter. Hang it where you work, and let it remind you to stretch.

Remember to take as much time as you need, and meet me at the next one.

Love, Evi
